On gaining a law degree from Liverpool John Moores University, Simon went on to study the Legal Practice Course at York College of Law. After graduating he won a two-year training contract at Hull-based Hamers Solicitors which was an exceptional achievement in the early ‘90s.
Simon was handed his first clinical negligence caseload shortly after qualifying in 1996. Since then, he has practiced almost exclusively in this area of the law, going on to become one Yorkshire’s prominent names within the medical negligence field.
He has been involved in the development of clinical negligence departments at a number of firms throughout the Yorkshire area. Before joining Medical Solicitors in September 2021, Simon spent 13 years at a Hull-based law firm where he was part of the senior management team.
With experience in all aspects of medical negligence, Simon specialises in cases involving strokes, bile duct injuries, deep vein thrombosis/pulmonary embolism, and orthopaedic claims. He has also developed expertise within the coronial system, having represented many families through the inquest process.
Alongside his caseloads, Simon has vast strategic, commercial and managerial experience. In his previous role, he was involved in business development and marketing, which saw him help establish a team of 30 clinical negligence staff and raise its profile to a national level following forward-thinking marketing campaigns which he hopes to emulate at Medical Solicitors
How does Simon spend his spare time?
Outside of work, Simon is a keen sportsperson and is a former cricketer who now enjoys the slower pace of sponsorship co-ordinator at his club. He is also a level 1 accredited football coach who has managed junior boys and girls’ teams for the last ten years. He was previously a scout for Scunthorpe United academy.
