1. SUPPORT AFTER SEPSIS

UK Sepsis Trust 

The UK Sepsis Trust (UKST) was established as a charity in 2012 with the objective of saving 12,500 lives every year. It is committed to changing the way the NHS deals with Sepsis, to increasing public awareness and supporting those affected by Sepsis.

The UK Sepsis Trust has a support team with trained advisors who can help.

You can ask questions about sepsis, what may happen during your recovery and discuss any concerns you have.

Uk Sepsis Trust has support groups in the West Midlands, North West England (Manchester) and Bristol. They are held every 3 months and are very informal. You can meet others who’ve been affected by sepsis. You can discuss any concerns you may have or just ask questions about sepsis and what to expect during your recovery. Feel free to bring a relative or friend with you. The support groups dates are advertised on the website.

The Sepsis Forum can be accessed via a link on the website or directly on sepsistrust.invisionconnect.com. It provides 24/7 access to patient stories from sepsis survivors and their friends and relatives, plus information and advice to help individuals through their rehabilitation, from the UK Sepsis Trust team. You can simply read the stories or ask for help and support using your own name or under a pseudonym.

2. OTHER SEPSIS SUPPORT GROUPS

As stated above, the local support groups for Sepsis are limited geographically, but their meeting venues and dates can be accessed on the Sepsis trust website.

3. FOR BEREAVEMENT AFTER SEPSIS:

Part of the role of UK Sepsis Trust is to offer support to relatives and friends who have lost someone because of sepsis. Please refer to their contact details above. In addition, there are other organisations who can also help, listed below.

Compassionate Friends

National organisation offering friendship and support to grieving parents and families who have lost a child of any age through illness ( also by other means).  Support in the form of befriending rather than counselling is offered by bereaved parents and/or siblings.  They offer a postal library, newsletter, personal contacts, support groups and a range of specific leaflets.

National bereavement organisation offers comprehensive service of counselling by trained and selected people, advice on practical matters and opportunities for social contact.  Monthly magazine and other literature.  Many branches offer social contact and practical advice.  Also training for those who work with the bereaved.

Macmillan benefits advisers for people affected by cancer

A Macmillan benefits adviser can help you work out what financial help you can get. They offer specialist advice to help ease money worries, including information on benefits, tax credits, grants and loans. They can provide advice by telephone, face-to-face and home visits. This service is for anyone affected by cancer.

Age UK benefits advice for older people

Age UK is for those over State Pension age and living in the area covered by the local branch. Some local branches of Age UK offer a free, confidential benefits advice service. Practical assistance to make sure you’re getting all the benefits to which you are entitled. They can provide advice by telephone, face-to-face and home visits and help with completing forms.

Gingerbread Single Parent Helpline

Gingerbread provides advice and practical support for single parents, including advice on benefits and tax credits.
