Your role

We are seeking a skilled senior Costs Lawyer to join our team. This role will involve supporting our fee-earners by, negotiating and budgeting work, statements of costs, supplementary documents for detailed assessment across intermediate and multi-track cases, as well as some drafting of bills (if full-time). There will need to be less bill drafting if part-time as external support will be needed to support the team to cover all billing needed. We are presently a 12 fee-earner team (soon to be 14).

Your role will involve but is not limited to:

  • Preparing N260 statements of costs and risk assessments.
  • Completing Precedent S and Q documents and initiating Detailed Assessment proceedings.
  • Preparing Precedent H, Precedent T and Precedent Z in the costs management process.
  • Negotiating costs and if necessary, requesting Provisional/Detailed Assessment.
  • Drafting formal bills for inter partes detailed assessment (extent of bill drafting is subject to whether we recruit a part-time or full-time candidate).
  • Issue of costs proceedings when necessary.
  • Working to WIP targets and adhering to deadlines set by supervisors.

What are we looking for from you?

  • Legal qualification desirable.
  • 7+ years experience plus in costs drafting within claimant personal injury sector.
  • Proficient in drafting Bills of Costs and, preferably, Precedent H, R, and Q, and finalising bills in Multi Track and budgeted cases.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with Civil Procedures Rules and Detailed Assessment process.
  • Experience with Proclaim Case Management System and Costs Master an advantage.
  • Ability to work independently in a dynamic team environment.
